Webinar on Gender, Informality, and Fiscal Justice for Women in Africa

ICTD Senior Research Fellow, Vanessa van den Boogaard, will be speaking at a webinar hosted by the Local Public Sector Alliance Gender Equity and Women’s Empowerment Working Group and Subnational Finance Working Group, in partnership with The Hague Academy for Local Governance Sub-Saharan Africa Group.

This webinar brings together leading researchers and practitioners to examine how subnational tax systems are designed and enforced, who bears the burden, and what a gender-responsive approach to local fiscal governance would look like in practice. We will explore the relationship between rural and urban tax governance, the multilevel governance architecture that shapes women’s fiscal experiences, formalization, and the case for a services-first approach grounded in fiscal justice.

Speakers

  • Dr. Rachel Beach, UNDP Arab States Regional Office
  • Dr. Michelle R. Maziwisa, Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria
  • Dr. Vanessa van den Boogaard, International Centre for Tax and Development, University of Toronto
